The Mission Statement of the California Center is the same as the Mission Statement of the WCCM and the WCCM-USA:

To communicate and nurture meditation as passed on through the teaching of John Main in the Christian tradition, in the spirit of serving the unity of all.

The California Center is now located in Westchester at Holy Nativity Episcopal Church, 6700 West 83rd Street. PHONE: 310-641-1164

Holy Nativity is tucked away in a beautiful, quiet residential area. Map

The City of Westchester is located close to Los Angeles International Airport and is home to Loyola Marymount University.

The Christian Meditation Center is guided by an Advisory Council and staffed by Volunteers

The Center's immediate purposes are:

  • Teaching Christian Meditation
  • Meditation Group Meetings
  • The Contemplative Parish Project
  • Spiritual Direction in Contemplative Practice
  • Roots of Christian Mysticism Course
  • Bookstore
  • Christian Meditation Library

Longer range goals are to serve an ever widening geographic area. The vision extends beyond Los Angeles and vicinity to the State of California, to other US States and some Pacific Rim countries. This is one of the Christian Meditation Centers, which is in association with the WCCM around the world.

ABOUT THE WCCM-USA

The WCCM-USA is part of an international community of meditators, the WCCM.  Over 200 Meditation groups are found throughout the United States.

Local and regional coordinators support meditators and group leaders in their practice of a method of Christian prayer rooted in the gospels and the contemplative tradition of the Church. Father John Main, a Benedictine monk (1926-82), by whose teaching the Community is guided, reintroduced the tradition to religious and lay people.

Sponsored by the Cornerstone Christian Meditation Center,  Phoenix, AZ, the US National Council held its first Annual National Conference Christian Meditation, An Infinite Expansion of Love February 23 - 25, 2007 in Scottsdale, AZ.

The 2008 US National Council meeting will be held at Manresa Retreat Center, Detroit, MI. May 23-25, 2008. It will be preceded by a US National retreat with Fr. Laurence Freeman May 16 – 22.
